One of my favourite places on Rhodes Island, Lindos offers one of the best beaches with cool clear shallow water suitable for swimmers and non-swimmers alike. Lindos is the most photographed village on the island due to its traditional whitewashed houses and historic sites of interest. The resort is approximately 60km South of the airport in the middle of the East coast. Lindos features many small shops, bars and restaurants and the village centre is pedestrianised. Lindos has two beaches, the main one in Lindos Bay is said to be amongst the best in Rhodes. Sites of interest include:
The Acropolis of Lindos. The original site of a 4th c. BC. temple, dedicated to the goddess Athena, the acropolis is one of the best known sites in Greece and can be reached by foot or ‘Lindos taxi’ (donkeys), although personally I do not recommend using the donkeys, as an animal lover I consider this cruel. Open from 08:30 - 14:40 daily except Monday. Opening times may be extended during high season.
The Ancient Amphitheatre ( At the foot of the Acropolis above St.Paul's bay ). The Tomb of Cleoboulos (On the headland at the far side of the bay ). The church ( In the center of the village ). The Necropolis ( Above the square ) I truly recommend a visit to Lindos when you visit Rhodes Greece, as although it has now become a tourist area, it’s geography and buildings do give you a feel of the real Greece. Just spare the donkeys please :).
